In general, it's a really bad idea to date coworkers. At some jobs though, you're supposed to. If you work at a restaurant or bar and you haven't had a single Coworker Fling then you're getting totally scammed because that's part of the benefits package

It would be totally awesome to get rejected and spend the next 15 years of your career poisoning an army of 7-year-olds against the woman who turned you down. Disappointing he couldn't embrace this fate

She probably told a bunch of other coworkers, and so he quit out of embarrassment.
That's why asking out a coworker is never a good idea.
