I was recently scolded for using priority subway seating, I was 10 days post-op but “looked healthy”. In a crowed car, I pulled up my shirt to reveal a still stitched together 14” incision and asked if now I was injured enough to use the seats.
I’m tired of arguing.

I did this while I was in therapy for my broken knee in 2020. Therapist would tell me to not to use my crutches. I told him I used them for protection so others would know something was wrong and not ram into me or get angry I was slow.

I ended up with a stress fracture in my foot in December and used crutches while in the grocery store. I was ran into 3 times and got dirty looks from 5 different people. Yes, I was slow. Yes, I took up space. Yes, I was in pain. None of those people gaf.

Like the kids I asked to stop running in a store because they kept bumping into me.
The mom screamed at me to mind my own business. When I explained I had just had surgery and I’d been hit by the kids she exclaimed “that’s not my fault, then you shouldn’t be here”

As a mostly single mom with 2 boys with adhd and autism, who also sometimes have to go to the store with them (although I normally get deliveries to avoid that it's not always possible) I would say understanding and non judgement does go both ways. 1/2
