Ok, saying I prefer to buy physical media over digital, is not “ableist”.
That’s not even what that means. The word you want is classist, but even that doesn’t make sense in context.
People collect records, books, and movies, etc. physically, and we hunt bargains to do so.
@Levans6081
Making people pay a surreptitiously high fee (over time) for something they end up not owning at all, and having the systems we depend on decide *what we even know exists*, let alone what we have access to... That's the classist part of the transaction.
@AlexVorkov
Not to me, but I saw it in an online argument. Basically the misconception is physical media costs more, but that’s not true. Especially if you shop second hand, like most us collectors do the majority of the time.
@Levans6081
I have bought a large portion of my collection used or on sale. Also an argument could made that buying a long term lease on digital media that you don’t technically own is more classist because you could argue that they can afford to have something that could disappear.
@Levans6081
I buy physical media because you can and never should rely on streaming to have what you want. And what if your wifi is out? A couple years ago mine did for a few days but because I have all my favorites on disc I didn't panic🙃😀
@Levans6081
I’ll pay quite a bit for physical copy or audio narration because an audio artists and an author collaborated. I won’t pay more than $5 for a digital copy and even that’s pushing it.
@Levans6081
Take it from a sick guy, their argument is bunk. I've changed discs with an IV in my hand many times. The joy of collecting/watching movies has given me the energy to get up on many mornings over the last 19 years. Physical Media Forever!
@Levans6081
Oh easily. Some are cheap, some are expensive. I have the Universal Monsters box-sets, it cost me about $70 to import to the UK. On the other hand, I have a Tom and Jerry set. 160ish shorts from the golden age for a tenner. It's a crapshoot, but it's worth it for the most part.
@Levans6081
Exactly!!! I still try to find VHS tapes now and again (still have a working VCR) and my brother-in-law recently got us a record player so I am collecting records again.

@Levans6081
I agree, I prefer physical media because you never know when the streaming services are going to randomly remove something you were watching. 🙄
