Virchow's triad demonstrates the underlying cause for the formation of venous thrombus:
- Hypercoagulability
- Hemodynamic changes (stasis or
turbulence)
- Endothelial injury/dysfunction
Charcot's cholangitis triad is used for the diagnosis of acute cholangitis (note that not all patients meet the criteria):
- Fever
- Jaundice
- Right upper quadrant abdominal pain
Beck’s triad is used for the diagnosis of cardiac tamponade:
- Hypotension
- Jugular venous distension
- Muffled heart sounds
Don't mix up with the diagnosis of tension pneumothorax:
- Hypotension
- Jugular venous distension
- Absent breath sounds
Some patients (not all) with myasthenia gravis may demonstrate a peek sign which is fatigue of the orbicularis oculi muscle after sustained tight closure of the eyelid, as shown in the picture below
