Shogun, a typical Hollywood series that paints Catholics as villains
Jesuits and Japanese Catholic converts are portrayed as sectarian thugs that must be destroyed. Insane considering the REAL story is the exact opposite
Japanese Catholics faced brutal persecution for centuries
@PaxTubeOfficial
That would be cool, the show largely presents the Jesuits as lackeys of Portuguese merchants. It also presents Jesuits and Japanese Catholics as scheming subverters,attempting to justify persecution
The hero is a protestant Englishman which seems like a self insert by the author
@KezardIII
The poor Japanese Catholics didn't do too well by the US either. When visiting Nagasaki I learned that it was a very Catholic area of Japan.
@KezardIII
Are they wrong though ?
Wherever catholics went, they tend to destroy native cultures, and turn the converts against their own native culture.
Look at Philippines, Latin America, or other south East Asian countries.
They are replicating same formula in India.
@KezardIII
My friend.... that caused me revolt when i saw the Way they protaied the catholics, what’s a shame is that its very much well-made but to portray us like this.....
@KezardIII
They tell how you became the only Christian sect after the 3rd and 4th centuries, by massacring and destroying the Christian sects that contradicted the narrative of the Pauline sect that was absorbed by the empire and persecuted the others as heretics....
