@historyinmemes If you want to see the true difference between manual drafting and automated I suggest looking at a set of prints done by Howard Hughes in his early days as a draftsman. Architectural drafting was an art form. The difference is similar to the difference between the cathedrals of…

@historyinmemes The rendering and modeling abilities of computer design programs are impressive but they are seldom used. The shading and modeling of manual drafting until about 1950 were expected. After the war manufacturing and construction began to imitate the model of mass production. As…

@KerryMi34737041 @historyinmemes The difference in time is amazing. I work on antiquated equipment in the electrical field. I always am working with drawings from the late 50’s and 60’s. It is crazy to think how much time would go into putting plans on paper in that era. So much respect

@KerryMi34737041 @historyinmemes I learned drafting in 1966 using a board, T-Square, triangles, lead holders (pencils), ellipses, compasses, and other various tools and templates to allow me to make complex drawings. Still have all of these today.

@KerryMi34737041 @historyinmemes Interesting that too many changes along the way make it "crafting" where the purpose is known before you start, but the final form is not known till the finish, as a result of the process. Whereas "design", the purpose and the final form are known prior to begining the process.
