Have seen a lot of ppl talking about how history youtubers need to talk about the historical accuracy of the costumes in OFMD and besties firstly i dont think historical accuracy was the point secondly oluwande is wearing crocs and a guy is wearing a hot topic belt on his head so
Kind of a moot conversation but if you want to talk about the symbolism/meaning of various costuming choices that may be productive π i mean im not gonna do it but yknow.

This show falls SO firmly into "this was a style choice", the trend of wanting a fantastical show with any historical vibes to be Accurate is weird... especially when people don't generally expect that of actual historically-set shows..
@draculing
Yeah i think its a topic that needs a lot of nuance and depends on the show/movie. Some stories its like, ok some effort for accuracy is needed. And when the costumes ahistorical its laziness. But other times its genuinely a design choice for the character or plot!

My partner & I were discussing this last night. itβs actually pretty cool that they chose to kinda mash together history with modern things. Like the language for one. They use both older terms and very familiar newer terms. Reminiscent of Sophia Coppolaβs Marie Antoinette
@KazRowe
I did a thread on instagram about Stede's night robes/banyans but he's literally the only character (+the brits I guess) you could analize from. Like- the first time I saw Fang with his hot topic belt I died π
@KazRowe
This. I'm normally a stickler for accuracy but when a show clearly telegraphs that they're not going to do that, I can roll with it. I just hate the shows that are like "We're going to get everything right!" and then they really, really don't.
