What’s the greater risk to people under age 25, canceling in-person learning & extracurriculars (sports) to protect them from COVID or leaving it to chance how they’ll fill this time? You can’t take these things away from young people & expect good(health, academic, life) results
As I said at today’s news conference, Tina and I feel confident in sending our children back to school for in-person learning and sports. We are grateful for the teachers and coaches who will lead and educate them.
All sports can resume competition in Ohio on August 21. I know this is a big day for student athletes. The success of this policy is dependent on how well athletes, coaches and families execute the game plan.
Students need both, school and extracurricular activities. Both can be done more safely, minimizing risk, and we should make every effort to do so.
UW Study: Two-Thirds of High School Athletes Are Experiencing Depression, Anxiety Over Canceled Sports
I’ve been asked my opinion on HB 68. I support it for two main reasons: Men should not compete in women’s sports. Permanent medical decisions concerning gender should not be made when you are a child. I hope the SAFE Act will become law in Ohio.
As the
@bigten
prepares for another vote, in the interest of transparency and accountability, they should publicly report how each school voted on return to play for football/sports.
Yes, with medical science and common sense it is the right decision to allow athletes to compete.

What’s going on inside the U.S. Capitol looks like what we would see in a third-world nation. It does not look like America. It is not patriotic. The constitutional peaceful transfer of power is what makes America special. What’s happening right now is a sad day for America.
Two conclusions so far: elections should stop being covered through the lens of polling data, and many states need to update there voting laws so that the country doesn’t have to go through what we’re going through now.
To amend the US Constitution requires a 66% majority of Congress and 75% majority of states.
The Ohio proposal would require a 60% majority to amend the Ohio constitution.
Very reasonable.

After contemplating running for the Senate for 48 hours, I was reminded how much I enjoy the challenges of my present job... I intend to keep doing this job, run for reelection, and one day in the future, I intend to run for governor.

The Michigan SOS just made comments that if Michigan could process ballots the way Ohio does they would be further along—that’s right. Great to see the recognition of how we do it better in Ohio.
“It’s important to realize that it’s in the public health’s best interest for K-12 students to get back into face-to-face learning,” Redfield testified to lawmakers Friday. “There’s really very significant public health consequences of the school closure.”
I accept the voters' verdict that recreational marijuana is now legal in Ohio. I understand that, for various reasons, people want legal, regulated methods to buy it. For instance, an assurance that it's not laced with fentanyl or associated with criminal activity.
However, I…
I have dear friends who have expressed to me today that depending on who wins the presidential election that the end of America is coming. The dilemma: they have voted for different candidates. Love your neighbor as yourself, and it will all be fine.

The recent anti-Semitic protests and statements around the statehouse are so disappointing. We must be better than that as a state. For anyone to compare anything in Ohio to Nazi Germany is irresponsible and offensive.

The CDC can make a recommendation if they want, but they can’t tell Ohio schools to require a COVID vaccine.
The General Assembly makes Ohio law, and we have no COVID vaccine requirement in our state. Period.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation for the COVID-19 vaccine to be added to the formulary or schedule of vaccines for children does not mandate this vaccine for school children. (1/3) 🧵
Just watched the Pennsylvania press conference where the SOS said PA would count ballots that arrive after the election WITHOUT a postmark. So you could cast an absentee vote today and as long as it arrived without a postmark it would be counted. Bad law, bad court ruling.

School personnel are among the next priority groups for vaccines, but school personnel will only be prioritized for vaccinations IF the school is or will open for in-person education. There are many worthy groups, but for now demand for vaccines is great than the supply.

Around America debate justly rages about the need for school reopenings. In Ohio, 97.5 percent of schools are open for in-person education & many have been open 5 days a week for most of the school year. To those educators, thank you! For those who have not, the kids need you

IF sports betting comes to Ohio, the proceeds should go to Ohio schools to fund their extracurricular activities (sports/band, etc.) so we can end pay-to-participate fees across the state, helping schools, families and kids.

It appears Joe Biden will be declared the winner of last week’s election & when election officials declare the final results, we should honor the outcome.
Ohio lost a great treasure today in Annie Glenn. She stood strong for what she believed in and was a tireless advocate for those who needed a voice. She and John are Ohio-born heroes who we will never forget.

I just finished my July 4 tradition, reading the Declaration of Independence. It is the most famous break-up letter of all time. Unalienable rights. Endowed by our creator. Consent of the governed. With freedom comes responsibility (individual and collective).
I wrote this in 2015, advocating against pay-to-participate fees for extracurricular activities. Whether it’s fees or another barrier preventing participation, we need to overcome for our kids.

Coronavirus modeling & data are a lot like politics of late; some find facts that support opinions. We all benefit when we have open minds, consider the facts & come to a conclusion. My experience: most people considering the same facts will come to similar conclusions.
