I’m 7 months into looking for a job, but I just had to pass on a job interview because they expected me to audit their entire social media presence, their franchises’ social media presences, their Google Business listings, etc….all for free as part of the interview, with exactly…

I agree that’s too much. Glad you passed on it. It’s unfortunate that employers feel they can take advantage of people when they are out of work.
@JohnHays
I've been there. Wrote 3 blogs samples for a real estate agent once, he used them but not me. Once you've been stung you won't do it again.

I refuse to do more than send examples of past work. Companies that do such underhanded things are just trying to get work for free. Think about it. Four people are asked to do various tasks as you were. They have about six to eight months of work done for free.
@JohnHays
At senior level, they want to see your work as it relates to them but very exploitative. I did a long samples test, missed deadline cuz I didn’t want to do it, but they insisted. 3 months. They initiated! No go. I just ask samples +assignment of one hour’s work that I can’t *use*

Keep it going John, the right fit that is aligned with your personal values will come along. Good on you for making a statement and walking away from exploitive “opportunities”.
@JohnHays
Tough, but good choice. I was once asked to write a brief 2-page marketing plan w/ “big picture” ideas. “No need to go into details” as part of a multi-step interview. 3 weeks later, a friend happened to be in a meeting with said company & there was my plan without me or a job.
@JohnHays
Years ago I went for an insurance job, at the “ interview “ I was asked for pages and pages of my friend’s personal information, phone numbers, addresses etc. , all information they couldn’t get, ex directory, from work, school groups, sports and social contacts. I walked out.
