NYU Cardiology, Associate Chief at Bellevue, Adv HF/Transplant PD, VAD Associate Director - Cardiovascular Critical Care - views my own, RT not endorsement
First time seeing the sun and breathing the fresh air in over 2 months! Thank you to the
@DukeHeartCenter
CICU nursing staff for the field trip…balloon pump and all!
Feel very lucky to get to lead as Vice Chief of Cardiology
@BellevueHosp
and to be Director of Inpatient Cardiology. And what a privilege to help direct the VAD Program and HF Fellowship
@nyulangone
! Super excited to work with an incredible team led by
@glennfishman
@fred_guttenberg
@davidhogg111
I am inspired by your unwavering and determined effort to make things better. I am sure it is physically and emotionally exhausting, but your work will indeed make a difference. I believe that! Thank you.
Don’t normally do this, but this guy continues to amaze me. He is smart, compassionate, & he has inspired others with his leadership, mentorship, & allyship. He embraces the struggles we all feel & uses them to create a better, more diverse, and more inclusive community. Thanks!
Spent my whole career making a case for the critical care cardiologist. And don’t get me wrong - I ❤️ it! But have to admit, I am jealous of the prevention gurus who will impact so many more lives than me. How about a partnership? Can we make preventive card crit care a thing?
While I’d love to celebrate all the women who have taught me and inspired me over the years on this
#InternationalWomensDay2022
, the list would be far too long. Instead I thought I would highlight a trial - led by an amazing woman - that truly fueled my passion for Cardiology.
I’m not going to do this anymore. I’m done re-tweeting prayers. I can’t move on to highlight some manuscript I just wrote while children are dying & monsters (those in Congress) are complacent + morally complicit. We have an obligation to fix this. Gonna try or go down trying…
My grandmother was originally from Kyiv & escaped with her family from religious persecution. As a child - while fleeing - she watched as her mother was shot & killed. She struggled to speak of the events, but I know she would have been praying for the people of today’s Ukraine.
Abortion is now banned in Louisiana. We need a different venue for

2023. Let’s show we care about each other and that women’s rights matter. Do it for our patients, families, colleagues, profession. Let others follow…|

surgical CTICU. Thanks to amazing surgeons, anesthesiologists, APPs, RNs, RTs, pharmacists, & trainees for continuing to teach me about med & life! Thanks esp to patients who allowed me to participate in their journey.
@JacobNiall
@mswami001
Love this! Star cardiology fellow making sure that not only do I help take good care of our CICU patients, but also that I stay “on task”! The timer is running - keeping rounds effective AND efficient - ha!

Please read this important perspective from a patient of mine who later became a good friend. James passed away suddenly after writing this, but I pray his words will inspire all of you the same way they have inspired me.
Well. I may not have found all the answers. I may not know where my path will lead me. But I found inspiration, and peace, and plenty of motivation to put one foot in front of the other…🙏
Join us at FIT Jeopardy where I get to live out my childhood dream of being a game show host! Add in great friends who are leading the charge…

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. Was reminded of this after a conversation with a dear friend (from Bonnie Ware’s book “The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying”). Time is sacred & happiness is a choice. We are all worthy of joy.
Congrats to
@CostaPhilippos
on receiving the first ever Dr. Vanessa Blumer Research Scholar Award
@UmJmhIMRes
. Yes - you heard that correctly - proud to learn that
@vbluml
now has a legacy award named after her to be given each year to a deserving graduate!
@DukeCardiology
Haven’t done everything well in my life…that’s for certain. But I did ok with these two. Enjoyed a nice day with my girls, holiday parade, & capped off by a beautiful run under this 👇sky. Things to be thankful for…
If only need univentricular support, then I go with that instead of ECMO. As a crit care cardiologist, in particular, I ascribe to the mantra of "don't try to outsmart the body." Only do AS MUCH as you need to do, then get out of the way. Overtreatment is rarely good.
#CardsJC
I’m such a geek for the history of medicine. It’s such a privilege to be walking the halls of
@BellevueHosp
where visionaries of critical care cardiology once stood!
Happy New Year! I am grateful for so much and for so many. I’ll be following this one rule for 2022, and I hope others can as well —- Go in the direction of where your peace is coming from. Hope you all are successful in finding peace and joy! 🙏
Sign of an incredible talk? When you learn a ton and your mind asks a million questions sure to keep you up at night 🤣. Fantastic

Regretfully I have missed opportunities to watch in person as this young girl grows into an amazing woman. But her passion never ceases to amaze me and not a moment goes by where she fails to inspire me. Her dance, reminding us all we are human. Proud girl dad.
Hey
@CardioNerds
- thanks for recommending
@ThomasMDas
to be an expert panelist at our breakout session on “social media in critical care cardiology!” He was incredible & helped make it the best breakout I had ever attended at a medical conference. Honestly!
#CritCareCards22
Excited about this paper - but only if we can walk the walk after talking the talk! Need to collaborate, open the doors to our shops, & share/vet best practices, team dynamics, strategies. Hoping for a think-tank conference soon…

This is family! The most wonderful group of colleagues in academic medicine. Leaders not just because they have authored 100s of papers. Not just because they are pioneers. But because they care. They always want to know how I’m doing and how they can add value to my life.
She gave me one piece of advice as I headed off to medical school... “Jason, DON’T piss off the nurses!” Sage advice from a great mom! Happy Mother’s Day!
Spending Xmas eve in the CICU with the amazing Interventional Pulmonology team
@DukePACC
pulling out all of their tools on this one - it’s great to have such talented and dedicated friends!
@dukemedicine
Trying to live in the moment. Will hopefully have feeling again in my fingers soon! 🥶 Thinking about all the people for whom I am very thankful and appreciating the beauty all around me.
Join us virtually or in person for the 2nd NYU Critical Care Cardiology Conference. This one promises to be even better than the last one! NY bagels on me……!
Amazing talk by
@Brian_Houston12
on CRT in LVADs! And a vocabulary lesson at the same time - (note to self: look up the word salubrious). In all seriousness, simply fantastic!
@MUSCCardFellows
@RyanTedfordMD
Proud to have crafted this with such amazing co-authors - many of whom are tackling this in the highest-impact regions ! Hoping this will help with pandemic planning and help guide future work in the field.
There is a reason people are attracted to this field. They want to be physicians…they like physiology…add to that time-sensitive acute illness…and you have DYNAMITE 🧨

It’s not just about the device! Cardiogenic Shock teams may play a critical role in identifying, vetting, and appropriately triaging CS patients to the correct sub specialty ICU. So proud of these trainees - especially future cardiologist Andrew de la Paz.
@UNCDeptMedicine
Took a deep breath and respite from the stressors of the world to instead watch my son pursue his passion with vigor. Though not blessed with elite athleticism...and certainly not size...he makes up for it with unrelenting determination. Winter weather be damned...
A true leader and pioneer. Congratulations to the man who made cardiology “cool” when I was a lowly resident, and who has inspired countless cardiologists (including myself) to fight the good fight against heart failure.
@MarkDrazner
@UTSWNews
We would like to congratulate Mark H. Drazner, MD, MSc, FHFSA, for being named HFSA President for the 2021-2022 term. Congratulations, Mark! We look forward to your leadership in the coming days.

It is great that our societies/journals are putting out strong statements in support of women in the wake of the
#SCOTUS
decision. But politicians don’t seem to care about these statements - looking forward to working w/ others to figure out next steps! We are powerful together.
How do you say “proud” in just 2 pictures. See below. Outstanding

…and the SCCM moves their annual Congress from Louisiana to California. Making a statement on women’s rights for their members, for their patients, & for the community at large. Complex decision but kudos for taking action.

Look at the conviction in her eyes. This is America? We have a lot of work to do. I am going to start by showing my children and asking them “who is the bully and who is brave?” If racism is taught, then anti-racism can surely be taught as well.
Weaning temporary MCS by the expert
@preventfailure
! My favorite recommendation was “be as anal-retentive as possible.” Haha! Good news - she is speaking to a bunch of HF cardiologists

That feeling you get when the balloon tells you the esophageal pressure is 24 and someone yells “…but the tidal volume should always be 6 cc/kg ideal body weight.” “…and by the way, turn the PEEP back down to 5!” That’s a special kind of ventilatory torture
Last swim of 2020. There’s a certain calmness and peace about counting laps and following that straight black line at the bottom of the pool. Feeling optimistic about 2021!
An incredible piece by the person who made me want to be a cardiologist many years ago! Truly eye opening
