@JakeVigdor Thanks for good overview. Do take issue with "Dismal scientists will point to two basic solutions: building more housing or convincing people to move away from cities with housing shortages." Thought economists were aware of land value taxes as way to redistribute land wealth.

@JakeVigdor @Noahpinion I don’t know if it’s obvious to a lot of readers of rent control pieces, but in a rent controlled environment, quoted median rent pertains to on-market units and does not include rented units. The latter median can be far lower, so what are the shares of each group?

@JakeVigdor @Noahpinion I get that RC isn’t effective for the city as a whole. At the same time, “modern RC helps… those currently renting apartments they can afford” is a huge caveat to bury mid-article and also undermines your title: RC ensures that tenants will continue to afford their apt.
