Prompt AED administration within 4 min likely would have restored consciousness. He is healthy and young. UCH will start therapeutic hypothermia to minimize anoxic brain injury. I am optimistic he will wake up within 72h without significant brain injury

His arms went into ‘fencing position’ when he fell. Seen in TBI and SCI which may cause severe braydi requiring AED.

From this angle it looks like the impact is to his shoulder and not directly over the heart. Is it still commotio cordis?

Wasn’t watching, saw clips. This FM doc wonders if they can do adequate CPR w shoulder pads? Thinking if they have AED on field, how do you use quickly w getting pads off without risking C spine.

Football as we know it is ending. This is scary. Not only head shots, but blows to chest from these incredibly big, strong and fast athletes, striking your body like flying missiles, can end up being fatal.
