It is now common knowledge and the talk of town that corruption is the key driver of Uganda’s social and economic woes;
Corruption is the main reason Government programs to deliver services to Ugandans are frustrated
- the main reason medicine does not reach hospitals (1)
although funds are allocated by the Executive and appropriated by Parliament,
- the main reason many roads are in bad shape,
- the main reason Gov’t is unable to raise the salaries of public servants,
- the main reason Gov’t jobs are given to people who don’t qualify,..(2)
- the main reason road carnage results in unnecessary deaths,
- the main reason for land grabbing,
- the main reason Reason for the exodus of Ugandan girls who go to seek menial jobs abroad where they suffer untold abuse,
- Reason for human trafficking of Ugandans....(4)
There is corruption in Gov’t, in civil society, in religious institutions, in cultural institutions, in the private sector, name it – corruption has eaten into the entire body fabric of Uganda like aggressive cancer. (6)
Watch out for any acts of corruption this week!
