The tapestry is awesome. Often iconic historic places/artefacts are a bit disappointing when you actually see them but this is better than you thought it would be and stunningly displayed too.

It has to be understood in conjunction with other documents, especially Domesday and contemporary charters. Interpretation is aided if you know some early medieval Breton language and history.

Several of the puzzling questions, and several more that people should have asked, about the Bayeux Tapestry are resolved once one recognises it as designed by Bretons, specifically Scolland and Alan Rufus.
