Yearn is going to be the front end to DeFi.
Regular people don't care about the specifics of individual DeFi products. Especially when you start layering integrations on top of each other.
All they want to do is deposit some money and earn a high yield.

Can you elaborate on $yfi's token value capture?
How would the use of its vaults bring value to the token since it is not really needed in the product usage?

I‘d say YFI sits on top of CRV and the likes... so L3 if anything.

I don’t disagree, but it seems utopian for “yield” to be one protocol, in the long term. And how much is really tech compared to Andre and his team? Investing into the latter might makes sense, but perhaps YFI should be valued as a hedge fund not a protocol.
