Head of State is a position in the governmental structure, irrespective of its powers. Even if the public will is not to replace it, we should at least demand complete transparency and accountability. If they serve the people, they are accountable to the people.

The idea that it's possible to ascend politics and ideology and enter a realm of pure objective impartial truth is in itself a right wing ideological stance

They will never give up their privileges. Imagine being treated as disdainfully as a commoner is treated, and having to uphold common laws and taxes.

Indeed! I haven't seen the video mentioned, but I wonder whether it includes among Charles's talents the ability to imitate Bluebottle of The Goon Show.

More seriously, the arrests on Saturday do indeed give the lie to the belief in the monarchy as a stout defence against tyranny. The Queen acceded to Boris Johnson's request to prorogue Parliament. The royal prerogative allows the PM to decide when to hold a general election.

I've just woken up to this truth, as I saw the people that actually represented the majority, being rounded up and arrested so the minority didn't get disrupted. Over 50% of the public disagreed with the coronation being publicity funded

Well he was, in the sense that he inherited the role from his mother.....and so on back through the centuries....but yes, WHY? What do they actually DO, other than consume resources?

Technically they're correct. Whether he should have been is the real question. An unfortunate accident could also have given us King Andrew I...

Charles was born to rule, but not in the way the saying means. He only has his kingship because heโs the son of the Queen. That doesnโt mean heโs any good at the job or whether itโs right in this day and age for there to be a heredity monarchy. Itโs feudal and should be abolished

I am concerned that even my most learned of friends ask the question, who would be head of state if not the monarch followed up by statements such as, weโd be in danger of electing someone like Trump. I am astonished intelligent people think like this.

Think about it. If you were planning society from scratch would you say โLetโs have one family that is way more important and richer than the rest of us, plus give them constitutional powersโ ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ

The problem with Republican arguments much the same as Remainer argument or indeed any activist argument, is that these are arguments that are there to attract people who already agree with you rather than persuade people who donโt.

Somewhere back in the epoch of time a person stepped up and took charge of a group, he was good at it, he made decisions that benefitted their society this made him the leader of the group
Groups of people always needed guidance so they made it an official thing...
