Goode, it’s been a while since either of us have been up that high (if ever). While he might have landed on his shoulder, the whole point of this focus on head injuries is that it isn’t solely about head contact. That isn’t a soft landing by any stretch..
For all the helmets out there it’s obviously foul play and a yellow card as he lands on his side, my point was holding your head looking for a red card isn’t on. If you hold your head you should automatically go for a HIA and it might help stamp it out
@crammybear
I’m not I just don’t agree with him in this instance.. a fall from that height will rattle anyone.. I believe the sentiment is probably right but not in this case 🤷♂️
@Gordonwdarcy
You know as well as I do players are holding their heads looking for opposition to get carded. If he’s holding his head he should go off for a HIA but I’m betting he said he was fine and the physio/doc agreed as soon as the penalty try and yellow card was rightfully given
@AndyGoode10
I not convinced it’s as prevalent in the game as you are.. that said you watch way more than I do and I agree with your sentiment if this is creeping into the game. However, I’m not sure this is the best example, that’s a hard fall 🤷♂️
@Gordonwdarcy
Excellent response Gordon. You are quite correct, it isn't all about head contact. One of the principal causes is transmitted head movement from an impact elsewhere on the body via the spinal structures. This leads on to proper education on the subject for all involved. A+.
@Gordonwdarcy
Now this is a sensible opinion. How does Andy know how the player felt? Yes, play acting has no place but neither does claiming his head wasn’t impacted when he just doesn’t know.
@Gordonwdarcy
Is that not new territory though? It's always been about the landing. I.e how they land determines the outcome of the card. Fans seem to be calling for something different now...
@Gordonwdarcy
Gordon, if head.i juries can be caused by a plethora of events not just head contact we need to do one of two things:
- accept the risk and play rugby
- ban rugby
You can't legislate the risk away.
@Gordonwdarcy
You can see that Stewart loses the flight if the ball and then looks round to see adams ? In the air - he hasn’t taken him out in the air on purpose it’s a rugby incident- tbh player safety should be taken seriously and it should be a citing as it’s dangerous play but YC is righ
@Gordonwdarcy
The presumption by Goode that Josh Adams was holding his head simply to get a yellow card is unnecessary. Talking of things creeping into rugby, he needs to look a little closer to home
@Gordonwdarcy
I personally thought Steward was lucky not to see red.
I also thought Adam should have seen yellow for his shameless attempt to exaggerate his injury. We don't need nonsense like that in the game.
@Gordonwdarcy
The fact he hasn’t hit his head on the floor is irrelevant it’s the impact of his brain hitting the inside of his skull that causes concussion
