The last time F1 raced at Imola was also my first race F1. A mixture of being happy to be there & also scared shitless. My boss stood behind me before the race start (the most critical moment for a controls engineer) and said βif you fuck this up, Iβll kill youβ. Ahh... memories.
I was 21, still technically an intern on an internβs salary (peanuts). Iβd been moved over to test team controls engineer a couple months earlier & then thrown in at the deep end after a bit of a mass exodus of people.

DNFβd with a driveshaft failure after our launch control went haywire in a pitstop... Yep, I was responsible for those too... what a start to the career!
Itβs all coming back to me. Gearbox position sensor went noisy during the stop. Software interpreted this as coming out of gear & disabled the launch control. Back then launch control controlled everything- driver just went full throttle and let go of a button on the wheel...
