On Jan. 27, 1967, Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee were tragically killed in a fire in the Apollo Command Module during a preflight test at Cape Canaveral.

Another more fitting way to memorialize all those who gave their lives in pursuit of space is to protect and preserve humanity's first steps on the Moon -- sites which today, enjoy no formal international recognition.
