Eric Adams and the PBA have negotiated a new NYPD contract that will cost the city $5.5 billion.
Pay raises are across the board and retroactive to 2017.
For example, cops who are 5 years in will now earn $130,000, a $40,000 increase. That's not including overtime.
The city currently pays $1 billion in NYPD overtime.
The new contract allows officers to work a four day week.
It's not entirely clear but this could make it easier for cops to take on extra shifts, earn more overtime, and blow out the budget even more.…

Wow! Is there any job where the top person comes out and tells employees they've been underpaid for years!! and this will be fixed retroactively with massive raises in the process. I bet nypd negotiators weren't even asking for this much.
School teachers should be half as lucky.
@Raja_intheNorth
Right? Meanwhile every other agency is facing major cuts.
Also cops earning $130,000 5 years in? Public defender salaries max out at less than that after 20 years.
@DrRJKavanagh
This is so insulting to the healthcare professionals that risked their life during the pandemic, continue to be underpaid, and are forced to do the work of multiple people due to shortages. We get 3% raise NYPD gets 28%. Time for me to go.

I watched Tuesday as Trump was being arraigned. two very smug police officers clearly - and they thought covertly - were signaling white power with hand gestures.

That's a lot of pay for a group with low training requirements, little oversight, able to reject those who score too HIGH on tests and who have zero obligation to help anyone in danger. Fucking amazing.
