@TechnicalBloke Absolutely maddening. On the upside, if you're in the States and have some foreign notes in your wallet, you can make an American's day simply by showing them money that comes in full colour

Easily the wackiest country I've ever been to: - still use cheques - think hanging laundry on the line is a sign of poverty - still sign for card transactions - use imperial measures - just generally have a banking system the rest of the world found antiquated by the 1980s

@DrDreHistorian Also, their different bank note denominations are all the same size and same colour.

@DrDreHistorian @TechnicalBloke I wish the mints would commit to it, but our bills do have color differences! They're just very slight, but you get used to them (they're slowly changing them since we tend to hate changes like that here for no good reason)

@starling_steel @TechnicalBloke I recall some hint of... was it pink? in $20 notes when I was last in the States a few years ago. The lack of size difference between denominations is a serious impediment for blind people though I grant the US one thing: I wish Aus/NZ hadn't changed from $1/$2 notes to coins

@DrDreHistorian @TechnicalBloke We call it "Monopoly money." 😂Y'know, because a 100-year-old board game does money better than we do. 😐
