Mums of children with

Do you feel at times defeated? That you &your child are treated like scrounges by the system? That you are so tired & alone? Today is one! I could weep losing an appeal I spent weekends & nights putting together & compiling evidence. Another unmet need
I have just come to this space after a busy day. I am overwhelmed by the responses to my tweet which I have only skimmed through but will respond to all who have taken time to offer advice. It saddens me how much the
#SEND
system is broken for parents/carers: NOT fit for purpose
@DrBalsamAhmad
My Autism works in song lyrics on reading your tweet “it” gave me this! 👇🏻
I lost my first tribunal (I’ve done I dunno 10?) I “won” each one since. A loss is just really a learning opportunity. Dust yourself down & get back on the horse ❤️❤️
@send_plight
Yes agree. Each loss is a learning opportunity but if you are the parent having to manage this interface with the system all the time it takes its toll on you.
@DrBalsamAhmad
I am sorry to read this can you get some legal advice challenge the local authority duty under The Care Act I know I don’t know what it was but would happily help if I could love to you all you are an inspiration xxxx
@ECLAIR_999
Thank you. So kind of you. I have not gone down the legal advice route yet. With everything else I have to do I need to weigh up whether appealing again is possible given the tight time frame given xx
@DrBalsamAhmad
So sorry to read this. The system is designed to make you feel like this unfortunately, in the hope you stop ‘demanding’ from it.
Twitter friends were a huge support to me when I had periods like this, if I can pass that kindness / support to you please DM .
@2tubies
Thank you Helen. Kind of of you. I don’t want to sound like I am negative. It is about basic rights. I think on reflection I may need the legal input on this if I decide to go to stage 2 & appeal this decision again. The thought of going through this again is draining!
@DrBalsamAhmad
I’m so sorry. The system is set up to be as difficult and adversarial as possible. I’d suggest seeking out support from places with skills and expertise in this area. I’ve not used them but Sunshine Support seem like they might be worth contacting x
@Redpeffer
Thank you. I have been advised today by a parent to contact both
@backuptrust
&
@spinalinjuries
I have approached both charities before, especially the Backup Trust & they have been great support
@DrBalsamAhmad
I'm really sorry.
It's sooo hard and it not fair.
Our children need support.
They are entitled to it
We are knackered dealing with everyday stuff then have to turn into legal experts and warriors.
You are amazing. The system is pants.
@smcourt1
Thank you. I am becoming more cynical by the day & gradually losing trust in organisations I have naively believed they are there to support SEND children & families. Sadly the shared experiences of other SEND parents seem similar to mine.
@DrBalsamAhmad
Yes sadly when young people need help, support and advice every possibly barrier seems to be thrown in front of you. The system is made to be as difficult as possible and it’s failing families and young people. Focus on the positives no matter how small they are.
@DrBalsamAhmad
Yes sadly - it is always such a fight, and such an unfair one in which everything feels weighted against the most vulnerable. I would highly recommend a phone call to
@sos_sen
‘s helpline to support you in navigating any appeal / legal process.
@DrBalsamAhmad
I’m sorry that you feel that way! Yeah I do feel that quite a lot.. others in the SEND community will always be here to uplift you when you are down so always reach out 🥰 if you need any legal steers then do just ping me xx
@MrsArcticride
Very true. The SEND parents (mostly the mums and hence my message) have supported me in so many ways. Thanks so much for the kind offer. I will contact you as after legal steers
@DrBalsamAhmad
Sorry to hear this. Nothing I’ve ever dealt with comes close to the SEND fight. The system is broken, other
#SEND
parents the best source of support. There are some kind professionals too, keep fighting and stay strong, you’ll get there x
@RuthHGreen
Yes agree
#SEND
parents have been amazing support, charities and a few professionals have gone out of their way to offer support. They too are frustrated by the system
