it’s pretty easy to reach the view that conservatives are more prone to disinfo and conspiracy theories than liberals if you conclude that liberals don’t participate in disinfo campaigns and just make the odd false statement. This is called circular or self-affirming reasoning.

What I learnt in political science is that politicians understand two things:
1. Perception - doesn't matter whether it's true or not as long as voters perceive it to be.
2. The numbers. The numbers to govern!
