In theory, if I'm on a Division I Coaching Staff and I know of a recruit. This recruit is ultra talented and few if any are aware of him, then why would I want to nominate him to attend a national camp where his recruiting will increase making my own job difficult?

@CoachDonFriday I agree with completely. But devil's advocate. If I'm a recruit and this coach won't nominate me for the camp, why would I want to play for him? I think "being the coach that nominated me" can be a part of recruiting the way a "first offer" is now.

@CoachJoeHaigh @MikeFlynn826 Joe - the big schools "poach" all the 5th year grad transfers. A staff, develops a kid, teaches him time management, instills responsibility, and some back-channel creep backdoors into your program and steals your assets. NCAA is blind only when it comes to $ and big sums of it
