I was coached in Little League by a man who had no kids in the league. Every coach in the league...no kids in the league. We practiced for an hour on Sunday a.m.and played 2 games a week. 1 uniform. It was awesome.
@ButchBaseball29
That’s exactly what our Babe Ruth league was like when I was playing & the first 17 years that I coached in the league. Only difference was Saturday am practices.
6 teams, everyone knew each other, 3 games on Sundays starting at noon. Families spent the day @ Bennett Family Pk.
@ButchBaseball29
Very thankful we had a your football coach Coach T with no kids as well. He was able to hold us accountable without the social pressure. Ran the same plays over and I over- T dive right: I right 34 Left....etc.
Feel fortunate.
@ButchBaseball29
Well put Coach! It was awesome to wear a uniform with your community’s name across the front with kids you went to school with. Meant even more when we entered HS and got to represent our community at that level.
@ButchBaseball29
Same in Steubenville. If they did have kids in the league, they stayed to coach well after their kid passed thru. I got to play for Coach Hoover. His son is currently the field coordinator for the Rays.
@ButchBaseball29
Mine wore jeans a long sleeve work shirt and smoked cigarettes coaching 3B 🤣😂....I get it I’m so excited for HS baseball. 1 maybe 2 games then go home to my house not a hotel. I don’t have to pack a suitcase to go to my kids game. That will be a first in a long time.
@ButchBaseball29
My dad coached LL for 22 years. I onlybplayed 4 of them. Started a community baseball 14u division of 6 teams, up to 24 w 12u now up to 22. Community baseball needs to be focal point of 14u kids.
@ButchBaseball29
Long lost era of community leagues with committed coaches. Jobs & school during the day, practice one night a week, play two games a week, hang out at the park the other nights playing cup ball & hot box, wait on fathers time stop talking, go home, get up the next day & repeat!
@ButchBaseball29
Just found out this week that one of the little league teams I played for was a Church. Saw a picture of myself and googled the name. All these years and never knew.
@ButchBaseball29
Most organizations are paying for this experience to have a coach outside the league with no kids and has experience, you were very lucky 🍀
@ButchBaseball29
Little League has it figured out IMO. If you look at the places that have healthy LL and not another organization they seem to have healthy baseball at the HS level.
@ButchBaseball29
I did both travel and HS ball with my kid. We were with a small travel ball org in Wilmington NC, that was great we got to know the families and kids and it wasn't pricey. HS however was a great experience the first year we went to states had a great coach. He left and the next 3
@ButchBaseball29
Very much the same. Coach was an old man, wore blue jeans, smoked like a train, but taught me fundamentals and to love the game. Button down wool unis...
@ButchBaseball29
The local youth football league I helped run was very similar. We had over 300 kids. When a Dad wanted to coach we said sure as long as you don’t coach your son. Most said no obviously coaching for the wrong reason
@ButchBaseball29
I did it twice over the past 6 yrs for age groups diff than son. I was asked to & enjoyed it. I had extra T-shirts in truck that was the same color as uni's - always ready to take in a kid on game day. Sharpie name & # on back. "Bullet" was fan favorite for the healthy kid

I was telling my guys about my little league experience. I played 11 games in the regular season. After if I made the all star team I got 4 extra games at most. Better believe I wanted those 4 extra games!
