The more I think about what Carlos Ramos did with verbal abuse penalty to
@serenawilliams
, the more I find it to be an abomination. No chance a man saying the same things would have been similarly penalized. No sport has done more for gender equity, but there’s more work to do.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Brett, do you have tape of Ramos allowing a male to jab and abuse and “get away with it”? Before throwing “abomination” around and accusing top umpire of sexism, maybe some fact-based journalism would be kinda neat. I’m happy to see the video BTW, just giving Ramos fair shake.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Whoa,
@BrettHaber
. Please explain to me how this becomes a gender issue when one player foolishly takes personally a call against the coach (who confesses) and then is so foolish as to abuse the umpire twice while already carrying two Code violations. Find me a guy so foolish.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Carlos ramos Has literally penaltized nadal for saying a random ''shit''. Calling him thief and ranting on him apsolutely deserves a penalty, take the coloured glasses off
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Verbal abuse in the men's game shouldn't be tolerated either. But It never would have been an issue if serena hadn't abused her racquet after already getting a coaching violation.

@serenawilliams
Brett. I understand your thoughts but you cannot not call an umpire a thief! Call him a jerk, an #***, but a thief! That should not be allowed. Man or woman
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Would you talk to people at work like that? If you did, would you get a pass? If you were talking to a regulator in your profession (FCC?), would you call him/her a liar with no consequences? If your point is that men should also be penalized, then ok.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Think some more then.
This is the same guy who gave Novak a warnings at WO18 for bouncing a racket not to mention at RG 17 for gesturing with a racket.
May be better to look at his record in men's matches before making such conclusions.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
Imagine for one second if Osaka had behaved like that. She would be out on her ass to thunderous applause. Them damn rules!
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
On the one hand,Naomi..grace, humility, dignity, respect, and poise.On the other, Serena..let's leave it there.A great champion,but we've seen this kind of abominable behavior before at referees and lines people when calls go against her.She might look to Fed,Nadal,Nole as models
@BrettHaber
What happens if Serena refocused on the match instead of choosing to continue to elevate her aggression and rage toward Ramos, after 2 violations??
Of course no surprise Haber’s response is to yell ‘gender bias’ and that Serena holds no responsibility whatsoever in the matter.
@BrettHaber
@serenawilliams
It wasn’t the words, it was her acting like she was above him. Maybe don’t push buttons when things aren’t going your way. Serena’s to blame here. I can’t think of
@rogerfederer
,
@PeteSampras
and many men’s champs giving that much ‘tude, especially in a Slam Final.

Most men/players know the rules and don’t A. Verbally abuse the chair umpire AFTER two warnings and B. Realize that a coaching violation is an indictment on coach not player. You are missing the point - she lost a game because it was her third strike. C. It was coaching
