Does anybody use HIK for animation in Maya? I'm working on a script, and with every other rig it works perfectly, but HIK rotations is just something else.. it changes without even asking Kind of unclear how it is even supposed to be used when results are so unpredictable 🤔

The situation is ironic, l’ve tried hik in 2016, found it glitchy and unpredictable, so had to learn how to create custom rigs from scratch. So all this long rigging journey happened just because of quaternion keyframes 😅

@BorovikMotion it appears to be the behaviour of a quaternion keyframe. hik utilizes them as the default option. this can be changed in maya preferences, animation | new hik curve default

@BorovikMotion Delete ikHandle & add a new one. If that doesn't work then delete the ikHandle & orient the joints. You can also disable the ikHandle & check the joint rotations. Other things could be some stray nodes or history. save a copy of the file & do a clean up. Or export to a new scene

@TrevyLimited Thanks, not sure about reorienting joints, I used a default UE skeleton and default hik characterization

@BorovikMotion HIK is super annoying its best to retarget but for animation its hell. I use it when im provided a mesh with no rig and need to animate. Half of its issues come from the rotation types they are quaternion wich doesnt allow to properly edit curve.

@BorovikMotion You cannot even put your curves in stepped mode with the HIK. Literally any auto-rig is better try MGear !
