Here’s an idea
@RobertBuckland
: Get males out of women’s prisons now. Just get them out. Do not let them in. House trans identified males in dedicated units within the *male* prison estate. Prioritise the safety & mental wellbeing of females. Call a halt to this shameful fiasco.

It won’t just be the physical attacks. These men will be gloating in their power to make the women around them feel uncomfortable and at risk....just by being there.

@RobertBuckland
It just wreaks of misogyny. I can't see any other explanation for placing already marginalised and vulnerable women at such risk.
@BluskyeAllison
@RobertBuckland
No one truly believes that a man can become a woman. They're men. Everyone knows this. Putting men in women's prisons is ludicrous.

@RobertBuckland
I am pretty sure there has been more than 7.
I think most prisons wouldn't even have the data because the male trans prisoner is in the system as female, so any incidents are recorded as female-v-female assaults (on paper, obviously, all the inmates and staff *know*)

@RobertBuckland
Great idea. Definitely out these units in male prisons though , do not pander to their fantasy that they are ‘women’ by putting them anywhere near a women’s prison
@BluskyeAllison
@RobertBuckland
Male prisons have dedicated wings for vulnerable prisoners. I’ve never understood why transmales have not been housed there. It’s what they are for.

So let’s say 130 trans women self-ID as female. That still puts trans women at a far lower incarceration rate than cis men. And again, I’m assuming that 1.4% figure is correct, and the division of trans women and trans men is proportional to AMAB/AFAB people.

See, let’s say that study’s correct - I don’t think it is, the number is likely higher, but entertaining that idea - you still wind up with an incarceration rate ~20% that of cis men. All these attempts to make trans women’s statistical behavior match cis men’s still fall short.

The people quoted in the study entertained the possibility that some prisoners were lying. I think that people will try to make their prison experiences easier, or try to gain their freedom. But that’s not the same thing as believing they all lied, or that I trusted the estimate.
