Dear Parents, if the baby change facilities are in an accessible toilet, please don’t leave the changing table like this!
I’m blind & just walked smack into this one. It really hurt.
My white cane can’t pick up things at height & it would also be in the way for wheelchair users
I know often these facilities are only available in the accessible loo or exclude many parents by only being in one of the gendered toilets.
So this is just a polite request from a disabled person yet to be a parent that can we keep the facilities safe & accessible for everyone!
And now for all the people who are asking how a blind person can take a photo & tweet.
I had just walked into it I pointed and clicked.
Also remember how Siri & Alexa exist?
Technology has been talking to blind people since the 80s.

Question from one who has some say in these things: knowing that people changing younglings sometimes get their attention pulled away and then forget to do important things, is there a way to safeguard against you walking into the table if it is left down? Eg hanging a long rope
@Mons_Tweets
Well I might be a disabled mum one day that needs it, so I don’t agree. But I agree where possible there should be a separate accessible changing space.

Before y'all wonder how she could type even though she's blind: there's people who make things accessible for disabled people ok. It could be speech to text or some device. Sorry abt this but I've had HAD enough of people being smartasses

You’re my new best friend 😘
(FYI every time one of my tweets goes even marginally popular I get smart arses demanding to know how I can use twitter or post photos & accusing me of being a fake blind person.)
@BlondeHistorian
Hope you are okay. I use a wheelchair and had a changing table fall onto me recently. They are surprisingly heavy! Which also means if they are left down it is tricky to push them back up from a seated position.
@BlondeHistorian
I never thought of it as an obstacle like that. I'm not blind or a parent, but it really irks me whenever I see the changing station open like that. It just looks odd and messy
@BlondeHistorian
As a man it’s also infuriating that changing stations are often only found in women’s bathrooms, and/or accessible bathrooms if they have them. I have brought our daughter back to my wife with a still wet diaper numerous times.
@BlondeHistorian
This never occurred to me. Sorry. Thanks for educating (don’t have babies or use disabled loos but I need to be aware of things like this!)
