30 years ago, I joined New Cumnock Fire Station as an on-call firefighter; attending my first training evening the following Wednesday.
Some things may have changed since then but the fire and rescue service's commitment to support others in times of need remains constant.
Tonight, at Dalry Community Fire Station, we came together to celebrate Watch Commander Fred Williams, who has selflessly served his local community as an on-call firefighter for an astounding 50 years.
His outstanding dedication to public service is truly commendable.
