I mentioned this on my TikTok the other day, but I wanted to add I was thinking about how the common western refrain is what abt the children & women not thinking about the men & how western feminism cannot reckon with how Palestinian men specifically in this case are caretakers-

-in a way that we cannot fathom men in North America being and the dissonance of that I think is breaking through somewhat but also there’s the women who are taking charge in a lot of coverage, who are not wearing hijab, who speak English, who are clearly educated,

It’s so deeply against what is engrained in the mindframe of a post 9/11 world, that I do believe people who are open to it are seeing it and having to rearrange their entire world view after years of casual orientalism/Islamophobia/general hatred of Arabs

Not to mention, those little babies we are crying over, eventually and inshallah that toddler we saw shaking? He will be a man I hope but then will you care about his life when he is alive then but grown?

@Akitron I was just thinking about this the other day. Western white feminism cannot fathom the concept of the doting uncles and babas and jiddas. These men are our families and our community members and they deserve to be spared all of this.

@twittysuch Like! ofc, we all have our problems and not every Arab man is the perfect father, but even so that doesn’t condemn us to death? And how many beautiful kind loving uncles have I personally met in my life who have been so kind to random weird little kid like me back then to now.

@skies Absolutely! Even I was and have done it without thinking bc truly women and children are the most vulnerable in these situations but I can’t let myself forget the men bc of that 😔

@Akitron I think there's something to be said about Western Feminism being as it is because Western Men are a certain way & we've all got trauma responses Toxic masculinity is endemic in the Americas, we don't know men can be kind & doting because we've never experienced it

@Akitron As an Armenian American, I've seen in my family the men be fierce, loyal, loving and gentle protectors, cuddle buddies, and the tenderest of carerers, rejoicing in their roles as family, partners and friends to theirs and ours through our clan, it's not ridiculous to me, (1/2)

@Akitron I learned this was also the issue with western feminism and the war in Afghanistan, the phrase “colonial feminism” comes to mind.
