Even 18 months in it still astounds me that most so-called “lockdown skeptics” vocally oppose any and all measures which might prevent lockdowns from becoming necessary.

They haven't worked so far. 18 months in. Come on. We did what was asked, it turned out that mask mandates and lockdowns caused upticks.
Lockdowns only delay it. Let's carry on as the brothers and sisters we were before this started

Demonstrate that mandatory lockdowns work, then, and quantify their effect.
Real-world evidence preferred over modelling-derived evidence.

Some people just want to carry on as normal with no changes. It's a consistent position, however silly and irrational it is. Hardly shocking, just stupid

18 months in, it still astounds me how many people are in favour of covid restrictions which might work, masks, scotch eggs etc…without demanding evidence and how many still think lockdowns were ever necessary without assessing the overall damage against benefit.

If there was evidence that measures work, and that the absence of said measures would prevent lockdowns "being necessary", then you might have a point. But there never is, and lockdowns are never necessary.

Including the closure of all non-essential industries during lockdown so that the virus can be eliminated - and enforcing the strictest restrictions on entry apart from geographical regions (countries, counties) that have eliminated it.
And removing all patents on the vaccines.
